For Irom Sharmila Chanu

>

May be its is more important for me to know about each and every move the Bachchans make or when Shahrukh smokes.  May be I am supposed to go dancing in the streets when the media rejoices that India has more billionares in top 10 than any other country.  But 7 years of apathy, I tell you TOIs, the Hindus, the rediff and other mainstream medias of India., that's a FRAUD you are doing with your readers.  Today starts depressing, not just the news, but the fact that for seven years it was not even discussed.  The fact that this doesnt bother any of our "leaders".  "Leaders" who come running to talk when a bottle gets thrown in Bachchan mansion.

Call your local newspaper/media and demand to know more about this brave woman and her fight.

Oh and by the way don't forget to sign the petition if you wish to contribute to her cause.  (Yes petitions do work)

  1. I beg to differ Kabira, if I may on the efficacity of on-line petitions. This year there is another on-line petition it may be accessed http://campaigns.ahrchk.net/manipur/
If you complete the form as well as your name going to a list which will be presented to interested parties on her next birthday her tenth in quasi solitary on trumped up charges never having been brought to trial and also five emails are generated to Indian National and State politicians. The Vice President of India's email address didn't work last year so no change there. I assume he thought the job was a sinecure I hadn't realised India had a VP though of course if there is a president I assume there must be a stand-in also. The other email that bounces but after a few days is that of the CM of Manipur. Now he assumed once he had paid congress for the ticket that was it. In a first world nation there is an odd almost mythicoreligious respect given to putative voters. If I write to the President of the USofA, or the PM of GB, or it's Queen and I suspect this holds true of any western democrat, he has paid someone to answer his mail politely and I will get a reply. In India you pay a bribe to hold office there is no connection between voter and election democracy doesn't work that way here. So I beg to differ. They are not efficacious. They are magico-religious acts. I filled in the petition for the same reason I attend religious services. It's not to appease some vengeful God as Jawarhal Nehru suggested in his delightful book to the young future dictator of India when she was ten. So the other thing I had worried exposing my secret identity here not as a serious political commentator but as a rather foolish rambling old man who studies syriac and does film reviews falls out with his brother over money and falls in love and yet I figure no one really reads this stuff. So Kabira if it turned out you really were a supermodel ex porn star who also fights for freedom justice and underworld political groups of the dark web well that wouldn't lessen my opinion of you and I'd want to know more. Because that is the purpose of the interweb not the petitions or the enterprises the same as gregorian chanting of psalmody. We become the prayers that slip through the cracks. Ooh er missus yes I am a mystic too you know.
